This guy on slashdot had an interesting idea for a linux advertisement: link

Still haven't had a chance to open the case--too weak to lift the monitor. But there is a possibility of dropouts in power. Maybe I need a UPS. I have seen some for $30, so it may be worth it.

It also could be the kernel I compiled has unstable code. I hate the Linux 2.6 model of mixing untested and stable code. I'm going to try the stock Slackware kernel for a while to see if it freezes too.

I think I figured out why my Netvista computer is locking up. link

link Talking about Netvista computers: "eek, I hope it isnt the little black ones with the purple front? if it is, be prepared for random lockups etc as they all had the capicitor problem." Yay. I guess I should find a power supply for my emachine and see if I can get it working again. Though I suppose I'll check out the netvista to see if there is anything I could do. I just wish I could buy a new computer. Been eyeing those dual core jobs. or maybe just a cheap $30 via mb/processor may be better than what I've got... Then again I've seen Asus Eee laptops for $300. One can dream...

I was reading a blog, and it appears someone finally started selling a $99 Linux PC. Seems to be tied to Amazon's online storage service though... . Review . The mfg's site

I had been thinking of putting together my own cheap Linux machine. I saw a $30 motherboard/CPU combo at newegg. Add a 2 GB or so flash drive, and you have a working machine.

Though these days I am more interested in making a cheap laptop or PDA which will run my programs. Would be nice to have something to do during dialysis There are quite a few PDAs and even cellphones out there which I could afford, but they restrict what programs you can load onto them. I may just break down and spend the big bucks on a $300 Asus Eee. They don't look too bad, I just have to afford them. --NormYeamans

On slashdot they were talking about custom builds, so I did a search...
